Q: What do volunteers do? A: Typically, warehouse volunteers start out in the general warehouse area cleaning and assisting in picking orders to be ready for distribution. Office volunteers start out filing, cleaning, and helping with mailings. Q: What are our volunteer hours? A: Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. & 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Q: Can children volunteer at the food bank? A: Volunteering is a great way to teach children about community service. Children ages 14 to 18 can volunteer but need to be accompanied by an adult. At least 1 adult for every 10 children. Q: What should I wear? A: For the warehouse, please wear sneakers or work boots, long shorts or pants, and a t-shirt. Open toed shoes are not allowed. For the office, please dress in business casual clothing. Shorts are not acceptable office attire. Q: Do I need to schedule in advance or can I just show up? A: Activities must be scheduled in advance. After the activity has been explained, come to the food bank at your scheduled time. Q: Can I bring a group? A: We welcome service groups, office teams, schools, alumni groups, families, and religious organizations. Our volunteer projects can accommodate groups of various sizes and can provide team building opportunities. Groups must schedule one month in advance. Groups of 3 or more will be accepted. Q: Do adults need to accompany children/youth? A: Yes, an adult should accompany anyone under the age of 18. A minimum of 1 adult volunteer is required for every 10 youth ages 14 to 18. Adults must supervise youth at all times. Q: Can I complete court assigned community services hours? A: Yes. Q: Can I come for just an hour or two? A: Our projects are designed for specific time periods, so we ask that volunteers commit to the entire shift. A minimum of 2 hours of volunteer time is required. Q: Is there parking? A: Yes, there is plenty of parking. Q: Can I take anything home with me? A: No. Please remember that all product is to be used for those in need. All food and product must be distributed through our affiliated programs and agencies.
